Sports, public space

2.0 ABSTRACT

The emergence of public spaces is a demonstrated effectiveness to fight against mayhem. Interaction, social life and safety come together. The image of the building aims to strength the embracement of public spaces by the citizens. The lightness of the canopy generates the perception of a cloudy that works as an urban lamp, helping the day to day images to be understood, recognized and embraced. From the structure to the activities the project has a reference to the circus. The circular structure, the track surrounded by viewers and the cloth canopies.

The design is comprised of an innovative roof structure which will simultaneously house the racing arena and provide shelter for the adjacent public plaza. The design of the New Velodrome City of Medellín synthesizes two seemingly incompatible spatial conditions: The insularity of the sport infrastructure and the permeability of the public space” explained the members of the team.Three elements define the public space of the new velodrome. The platform provides continuity of the pedestrian park. The facade vanishes during periods without competitions. The light roof dissolves the perimeter of the building.”
